Hi, hello, hey!
In classic me fashion, I’m finally starting a blog during month 9 out of 12 of my traveling-sabbatical-year-of-freedom. Which is fine, because I plan on keeping it going well beyond the end of my year on the road.
Let’s answer two important questions.
First off, who am I? My name is Noah G. Clark and I’m a recovering cubicle monkey originally from Columbus, Ohio. I quit my job in late September 2016 in order to travel the world for a year. Total white lady mid-life crisis move, I know, but hey, it’s what I needed at the time, and have always wanted to do. (There was also lots of planning involved; this wasn’t a “throw papers at boss and walk out the door at 10:30 am on a Tuesday” type of resignation. More on that in another post.) I’ve been having a blast and learning a lot, plus I’ve been to a lot of cool places.
What is Road Nosh? Well it’s a blog. A blog about travel, but also about food, and how those things intersect. From the hyper local fare you can only find in a certain small town somewhere, to the globalized ubiquitousness of Starbucks and McDonald’s, it is a very interesting time to be a human being with a mouth and a passport. I eat street meat and stay in cheap hostels, and eat at Michelin-rated places and dream about staying at the Waldorf (hey, more money for food that way). The point is, there’s good stuff to be found everywhere, and on every level of value.
Part of my procrastination on starting this blog was because I didn’t know what to call it. “Noah the Nomad” was too expected and passé, and “Pretzels and Palm Trees” was too, I dunno, cute-sy? I finally decided on Road Nosh because it sounds like a metal band, is a fairly short name (have you seen some of the blog names out there? Soooooo longgggggg.), it’s memorable, and sums up my raison d’être pretty succinctly. After I had already become the owner of the name I learned that nosh not only means to snack or graze in Yiddish, but also was a slang word in Britain for a certain naughty act. Thus it’s also a dirty pun, which I love.
So thanks for reading and following along with me while I eat my way through this beautifully messy world that we all share.
